Baguio City, May 18, 2023— In a proactive move to contribute to community literacy, six Bachelor in Elementary Education (BEED) students organized a community extension activity titled “Developing and Enhancing Instructional Materials in Pre-School.” The event, held from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Bayan Park Day Care Center in Aurora Hill, Baguio City, aimed to boost literacy skills and provide valuable instructional materials for teachers.
Aligned with the University’s Project A.G.S.H.A.N. (Achieving Literacy Goals through Service, Help, and Awareness in the Neighborhood), the student-led initiative focused on addressing the need for improved instructional resources in preschool settings. The team worked diligently to create materials that will aid teachers in delivering effective lessons, fostering a more engaging learning environment for the young learners. The event catered to 36 preschoolers from the local community, offering them a unique and enriching educational experience. The students engaged the young learners in various literacy-enhancing activities, ensuring a holistic approach to early childhood education.
The Bayan Park Day Care Center served as the vibrant venue for the activity, providing an ideal space for collaborative learning and creativity. The participating students showcased their dedication to community service and education, embodying the spirit of responsible citizenship.
As a gesture of appreciation for the children’s active participation, snacks were served at the conclusion of the extension program, creating a delightful and memorable end to the morning.
This student-led initiative not only contributes to the academic growth of preschoolers but also exemplifies the commitment of future educators to community development and literacy enhancement. The “Developing and Enhancing Instructional Materials in Pre-School” activity stands as a testament to the power of education as a catalyst for positive change within local communities.
