3rd REGIONAL STUDENT RESEARCH COLLOQUIUM: “Meaningful Collaboration through Research” Co-hosted by REICO of the UNIVERSITY of BAGUIO (UB) and BAGUIO CENTRAL UNIVERSITY (BCU)

The recently concluded 3rd Regional Student Research Colloquium, organized by the Research Innovation Extension and Community Outreach (REICO ) of the University of Baguio and co-hosted by the Baguio Central University ( BCU ) was held on October 15, 2025 at Centennial Hall, University of Baguio, Baguio City. It was a massive intellectual occasion where student researchers were invited to showcase and disseminate their academic works and hold a platform of intellectual interaction and innovation.

Among the participants were the College of Criminal Justice Education (CCJE) students, Jerial C. Coltiyen and Syndrec Charles P. Obonan, whose research titled “Innovative Practices of Silungan Center in Managing Child at Risk in Baguio City” was selected as one of the finalists in the CLUSTER 1. Their study shed light on the unique practices and effective strategies employed by the House-parents in the Silungan Center to support and rehabilitate vulnerable children within the community, emphasizing the center’s role in child welfare and protection. They were accompanied by the CCJE Research Coordinator Rowena B Gagno, MSCJ, who provides them the guidance and support throughout the event. The research team also benefited from the supervision and assistance of Dr. Michael T.Sebullen, Director for Research at Baguio Central University, who played a pivotal role in mentoring the students. Dr. Michael T. Sebullen and Engr. Lorelie S. Malit, were also invited to serve as Panel of Examiners during the colloquium, their incorporation with the said event ensured that only high academic standards were observed which made the whole process very enriching to everyone involved.

The 3rd Regional Student Research Colloquium, therefore, is a landmark event, presenting the promising young researchers and develop a culture among the academicians that embraces practical research, community-based research and research that will have a tremendous influence on Baguio City and beyond. This colloquium not only provided a platform for budding researchers to demonstrate their scholarly capabilities but also contributed to strengthening collaborative ties among academic institutions within the region.
