BCU-CBA Champions Innovation and Student Entrepreneurship in Business Pitch Competition

The College of Business Administration (CBA) of Baguio Central University (BCU), in partnership with the Research and Development Office (RDO) successfully hosted a Business Pitch Competition with the theme β€œPitching for Change: A Student Entrepreneurs Shaping a Resilient BCU” at the Margarita J. Fernandez Function Hall last October 15, 2025.

The event gathered students and faculty members of CBA and guest presenters from the College of Nursing and School of Midwifery (CONSOM). Dr. Michael Karl M. Barnuevo, Chairperson of the Department of Entrepreneurship at Benguet State University, served as the Resource Speaker and one of the panel members. The short seminar delivered by Dr. Barnuevo aimed to enhance students’ entrepreneurial skills by guiding them on how to conceptualize, develop, and pitch sustainable business ideas.

Dr. Barnuevo was joined as panel members by Mr. Karl Matthieu B. Rillera, Marketing Officer and Culture and Arts Coordinator of Baguio Central University, Ms. Jha D. Inuguidan, MPA, faculty at University of Baguio, Ms. Kahren D. Wayet, Faculty at Cordillera Career Development College. The competition was also graced by Dr. Elma D. Donaal, BCU’s Vice President for Academic Affairs, who delivered the opening remarks, Ms. Amalia F. Ancheta, Vice President for Finance for the levelling of expectations, and Dr. Perfecto M. Lopez, Vice President for Administration who concluded the program with his closing remarks.

The business pitch presentation followed shortly, where selected student groups showcased innovative proposals aligned with sustainability and social responsibility of the university. The initiative sought to foster creativity, innovation, and critical thinking among students in preparation for real-world business challenges.

The event was part of the activities for the Research Week organized by the BCU Research and Development Center in celebration of the university’s 80th founding anniversary Β and was made possible with the generous sponsorship of Casa Lasa, Kafenio Barako and BG Financial Professionals. Moreover, Dr. Barnuevo also announced during the competition that the group with Best Pitch will be receiving a Canva Pro access as their prize. The business pitch competition served as a platform for experiential learning aimed to empower students to become future entrepreneurs who can contribute to sustainable economic growth.
