A Distinguished International Leadership Team
The newly elected WUNI-L Executive Officers represent a global coalition of higher education leaders committed to driving innovation across universities worldwide. Dr. Robert Hayden Jr. of the Philippines was re-elected President, leading a diverse executive team that includes Dr. Yong-taek Min of Korea as First Vice President for Internal Affairs, and Dr. Muhammad Alif Bin Haji Sismat of Brunei as Second Vice President for External Affairs.
Joining Dr. Genevieve B. Kupang as Secretary is Dr. Ana Beatriz Garcia of Brazil, who will serve as Assistant Secretary. The financial stewardship of the network will be managed by Dr. Kiyoung Seung of Korea as Treasurer, with oversight provided by Dr. Jerlin Jose of India as Auditor. Dr. Sonny Soriano, also from the Philippines, was elected as Public Relations Officer, ensuring effective communication of WUNI-L’s initiatives to the global academic community.
This international composition reflects WUNI-L’s commitment to geographic diversity and inclusive representation, bringing together perspectives from Asia, Latin America, and beyond to address the universal challenges facing higher education institutions today.
Kupang’s appointment as WURI Historian and election as WUNI-L Secretary represents a natural convergence of complementary responsibilities within the WURI Foundation ecosystem. As WURI Historian, she preserves the history, evolution, and impact of the WURI rankings and conferences, telling the story of this transformative movement to the global academic community. As WUNI-L Secretary, she maintains organizational records, facilitates communication among members, and documents the decisions and initiatives of the Leaders network. Both roles require exceptional writing, organizational, and archival skills, as well as extensive networking within the global WURI community. This strategic positioning allows Kupang to bridge past achievements with future planning, bringing valuable historical context to leadership decisions while actively shaping the governance and direction of this international network dedicated to innovation in higher education.
As WURI Historian, Kupang has chronicled the movement’s journey through numerous articles published in Pressenza and the BCU website. Her work includes, to name a few, “WURI: A Transformative Force in Global University Rankings” and “The Visionary Behind the World University Rankings for Innovations,” which illuminate the founding principles and impact of the WURI system. She has documented significant events through pieces such as “Baguio Central University Participates in the 2024 WURI Global Conference” and “Embracing the Hanseatic Spirit: Baguio Central University at the 5th Hanseatic League of Universities Conference.” Her articles on webinars and organizational developments, including “WURI Foundation Hosts 2024 Meeting and Webinar: Inspiring Innovation for the 2025 Global Rankings” and “University Innovators Unite: WUNI Chairs Explore Goals and Initiatives at the WURI Webinar,” provide essential documentation of the network’s evolution and strategic direction
Through these interconnected roles, Kupang serves as both chronicler of innovation in higher education. Her position as Historian ensures that WURI’s transformative vision are preserved and amplified globally, while her role as Secretary positions her to actively shape policy, facilitate collaboration, and ensure that WUNI-L’s activities align with its mission of fostering ethical leadership and meaningful institutional change. This dual responsibility reflects the organization’s commitment to learning from the past while building toward a more innovative and inclusive future for universities worldwide, with Kupang serving as a vital bridge between documentation and action, between history and governance.
In her role as WURI Historian, Kupang builds on contributions from the global WURI community to create a comprehensive visual record of the movement’s journey. This photograph by Ms. Julie Ann L. Malicay of Urdaneta City University documents one of the transformative sessions at WGC 2025.
