Demonstrating its continued commitment to strengthening research capability and academic excellence, the College of Business Administration (CBA) proudly highlights the participation of its Dean and College Research Coordinator, Dr. Cherrie Mae M. Manuel, in the IBM SPSS Training for Researchers conducted on February 18–19, 2026 via Zoom. The training was organized by the Strategic Research and Development Center, Inc. and aimed to enhance the quantitative research competencies of faculty and research leaders through the effective use of IBM SPSS statistical software.

Day 1 of Training
Day 1-Workshop

During the first day of the training, Dr. Manuel acquired essential knowledge and practical skills in managing and organizing research data using IBM SPSS. She learned the proper identification of data sources, levels of measurement, and accurate definition of variable properties using the SPSS Data Editor. She also developed competencies in accessing data from various sources, managing multiple datasets, and performing frequency distribution and descriptive statistical analysis. In addition, she gained hands-on experience in creating and editing charts, interpreting SPSS outputs, handling multiple response sets, and utilizing SPSS syntax to perform efficient and systematic data analysis. These competencies are fundamental in ensuring accurate data preparation and presentation in quantitative research.

Day 2 of Training

On the second day, the training focused on applying statistical techniques essential in quantitative research analysis. Dr. Manuel enhanced her skills in analyzing categorical variables using frequency distribution, charts, and crosstabulation, including the Chi-square test of independence to determine relationships between variables. She also learned how to analyze scale variables using descriptive statistics and exploratory analysis. Furthermore, she strengthened her competence in comparing group differences using T-test and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), as well as examining relationships between variables through scatter plots, correlation, and linear regression. These advanced analytical skills enable researchers to draw valid conclusions and support evidence-based decision-making.

Day 2 – Workshop

Through her participation, Dr. Manuel significantly strengthened her capability in conducting quantitative research using appropriate statistical tools and methodologies. With the installation of IBM SPSS in the CBA Simulation Room, the knowledge and skills she acquired will be cascaded to faculty members and students, enhancing their research competencies and promoting the integration of technology in research instruction. This initiative will contribute to improving the overall quality of research outputs within the college.

Moreover, her participation directly supports the institutional quality assurance efforts of the college and serves as compliance with PACUCOA accreditation requirements, particularly under Area V – Research, Indicator 5.4, which emphasizes continuous professional development and retooling of research skills. The College of Business Administration remains committed to fostering a strong research culture and equipping its academic community with modern analytical tools necessary for academic excellence and innovation.
