Participants initially gathered at Baguio Central University Main Campus for a short briefing and to collect the pine tree seedlings from the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office. After which, led by CBA’s Dean, Dr. Cherrie M. Manuel, they traveled for about 40 minutes to Loacan, Itogon, the adopted barangay of CBA where they were warmly welcomed by three barangay kagawad of Loacan who assisted them with the activity. The tree planting started with a prayer led by the CBA’s Program Coordinator, Ms. Marga L. Taganas, followed with an orientation led by Ma’am Khea Joy H. Botes, who discussed the objectives of the activity, how to plant the seedlings and the importance of environmental initiatives. The orientation provided guidance and prepared the participants for the tasks ahead. The activity focused on tree planting and clean-up or weeding which are steps in ensuring the survival and growth of seedlings.

Participants gathered at BCU Main Campus for pre-departure orientation.

The success of the activity was made possible with the collaboration between the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office- Baguio City that provided the pine tree seedlings together with the barangay officials of Loacan, who not only guided the students to the designated site but also shared their insights on the importance of environmental sustainability. The partnership between BCU-CBA with these stakeholders demonstrated the power of collective effort in addressing environmental change. This initiative was in response to the call for tree planters from the City Environment and Parks Management Office (CEPMO), which also marks a significant milestone in The Green Investment Project’s mission to bridge students and environmental sustainability. Through activities like this, BCU-CBA students are being equipped to become responsible professionals who value sustainability, innovation, and long-term community development. The Tree planting in Loacan, Itogon stands as proof that when the youth, teachers, and community leaders work together, they can create meaningful change not only for the environment but also for future generations.
