In a meaningful initiative to bridge education and community development, the College of Business Administration (CBA) and the College of Hospitality and Tourism Management (CHTM) of Baguio Central University conducted a joint Community Extension Program on December 13, 2024, at Purok 27, Barangay Irisan, Baguio City.

The program brought together academic expertise and local participation in a day filled with learning, creativity, and empowerment. It opened with a chili paste-making demonstration led by the CHTM. The session highlighted culinary innovation and sustainable food practices that can be adapted for small-scale livelihood opportunities.

Participants eagerly observed the step-by-step process of chili paste making and kimchi making as demonstrated by the CHTM

Following this, Dr. Jocelyn C. Ang, Dean of CHTM, with its faculty members, conducted a kimchi-making session, offering insights on traditional food preparation methods and the nutritional value of fermented foods. Their demonstration reinforced the value of preserving cultural practices while promoting health and entrepreneurship.

Ms. Arlene Mintas, the University Extension Coordinator, delivered an inspiring message emphasizing collaboration, skill-sharing, and the transformative impact of education in empowering communities. Her words echoed throughout the event, energizing both participants and organizers.

Ms. Khea Joy H. Botes, a faculty member of CBA, delivers her discussion on marketing and social media as a tool in business

The afternoon session, spearheaded by the College of Business Administration, focused on marketing and social media strategies designed to elevate small businesses. Ms Khea Joy H. Botes introduced to the participants effective ways of using platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok in marketing their products. These practical tools help local entrepreneurs grow their presence and reach.

Participants, including faculty members, non-teaching staff, students, and women from the Irisan community, engaged actively throughout the sessions. The hands-on approach encouraged them to explore the relevance of the topics in their everyday lives and entrepreneurial pursuits.

Mr. Junik Cris A. Calahi, the CBA Extension Coordinator, facilitated the registration of the attendees

The event concluded with the awarding of certificates and a photo session, marking the success of a collaborative effort between the university and the local community. Registration and coordination were efficiently managed by Mr. Junik Cris A. Calahi, the CBA Extension Coordinator.
