Baguio Central University’s College of Business Administration has successfully concluded its seminar titled “Navigating Competencies of CBA Students towards Agile and Future-Proof Young Business Professionals (Series 2)”. The event, held at Margarita Fernandez Hall last March 3, was a sequel to the Series 1 which was conducted on the first semester of the academic year.

For this semester, the seminar focused on the technical aspect of CBA students with the topics: Introduction to Cooperative Development, Exploring Opportunities in Cryptocurrency: Trends and Potential and Business Tools: Basic Excel Essentials in Business. To provide students with practical and real-world insights, three professional experts were invited as resource speakers to discuss each topic. Introduction to cooperative development was discussed by Ms. Priscilla T. Bejar, a, experienced Cooperative Development Specialist from the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA). She established the core of her discussion by enumerating the legal mandates that governs CDA and the cooperatives. By defining cooperative, she was able to explain how the cooperatives work and their values and principles. This topic provides students with additional insights on cooperative as an alternative business model that emphasizes democratic-decision making and shared ownership which is unique compared to other business models. Additionally, it highlights the potential for cooperatives to community empowerment and economic development which also offers a comprehensive view of socially responsible business practices.
The second resource speaker, Mr. Clarence D. Dilem, a trade specialist and an entrepreneur, shared valuable information on opportunities in Web 3 and cryptocurrency. His accounts of his personal experiences related to his topic showed students other opportunities for self-discovery, challenging the conventional career path. Mr. Dilem illustrated how the evolving technology can open up new avenues for entrepreneurship, financial independence, and innovation. This perspective encourages students to explore alternative careers and embrace emerging technologies but still with enough research and caution. The last speaker, Ms. Lourilyn Maure A. Basilio, experienced in financial profession, introduced the benefits of Excel as a business tool. She highlighted that with the emerging trends in technology, Excel still thrives as a commonly used and helpful tool utilized in business specially in small and medium enterprises. For CBA students, this reinforces the importance of mastering essential business tools which are widely used in business operations and decision making. Acquiring proficiency with these business tools will equip students with practical skills that are crucial not only for their employment but for them to excel and succeed in their chosen careers.

The first seminar series was conducted at the same venue last October 8, 2024 which focused on developing professional image, personality development and mental health. With its commitment to fostering well-rounded, forward-thinking and future-proof professionals, the College of Business Administration continues to empower students with tools and knowledge they need to thrive in their future careers.
