-Marga L. Taganas

Faculty members of the Baguio Central University’s College of Business Administration (CBA), led by their dean, participated in the Phase 2: Capstone Project Development Training themed “From Vision to Action: Project Design, Implementation, and Sustainability in Capstone Research” on October 22, 2025, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM at the Alumni AVR, University of Baguio.

The University of Baguio, through its Research Innovation Extension and Community Outreach (RIECO) Office headed by Dr. Donnavila Marie Panday-Herbster, once again invited BCU to join its continuing initiative to improve faculty competencies in crafting impactful and innovative capstone projects. This collaboration follows the earlier Phase 1 Training held on July 24–25, 2025, which was attended by Dr. Cherrie Mae Manuel, CBA dean, Ms. Khea Joy Botes, and Ms. Marga L. Taganas.

Recognizing the importance of capstone projects- especially for students of the Bachelor of Science in Computer Science (BSCS) program- the CBA sent all its faculty members to further strengthen their project design and research-writing skills. Joining the three previous participants were Dr. Jolly Mariacos and Mr. Junik Cris Calahi, both faculty members under the BSCS program.

The training featured Engr. Nathaniel Vincent Lubrica, PhD, Executive Director of the University of the Cordilleras Research Services Office, as the resource speaker. Engr. Lubrica provided a clear and insightful discussion on project design and methodology, illustrating key concepts with real examples from his past and ongoing research initiatives. He also shared practical strategies for project implementation planning, monitoring, evaluation, and sustainability- core elements vital to successful capstone development.

To reinforce learning, participants were tasked to conceptualize their own capstone project ideas and present them for critique. Engr. Lubrica offered constructive feedback aimed at refining their proposals, with the expectation that these projects will be further developed and prepared for implementation in the next phase of the training.

The activity marks another step forward in enhancing the research capabilities of CBA faculty members, ensuring that future student capstone projects are not only academically rigorous but also innovative and responsive to real-world needs.
