Baguio Central University (BCU) actively participated in the Health and Wellness Promotion conducted on February 2, 2026, at the St. Paul’s Academy of Sayangan Inc. Gymnasium in Atok, Benguet, as part of a landmark Mobile Extension initiative under the CUBE Partnership. The activity was organized through the collective initiative of the Cordillera Career Development College, University of Baguio, Baguio Central University, and Easter College Inc., demonstrating the strength of inter-institutional collaboration in advancing community health and social responsibility.

The Mobile Extension successfully served more than 400 clients and patients, providing free medical and dental consultations aimed at promoting preventive healthcare and improving access to essential health services in the Atok community. Services rendered included vital signs assessment, height and weight measurement, postural assessment, urinalysis, blood typing, blood sugar testing, and a comprehensive range of dental services such as oral examination, oral prophylaxis, tooth extraction, and fluoride application. These interventions addressed immediate health concerns while fostering health awareness and early detection among beneficiaries.

This historic collaboration brought together student nurses, student dentists, licensed medical professionals and practitioners, alumni, faculty members, heads of offices, and university directors from the partner institutions. Working side by side, the multi-sectoral team exemplified compassion, professionalism, and service-oriented leadership, transforming academic expertise into meaningful community impact. For BCU, the activity also served as a valuable experiential learning platform where students were able to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world settings under professional supervision.

BCU’s participation was spearheaded by the College of Nursing and School of Midwifery, led by Dean Gina L. Casi, with the support of the college extension coordinator Mr. Allan P. Guinanghan and Program Coordinator Ms. Imelda B. Manuel. Faculty members and students from the college played a central role in the delivery of health services, ensuring ethical, safe, and quality care throughout the outreach activity.

In parallel with the health mission, a Barangay Coordination and Community Profiling initiative was simultaneously conducted in Barangays Cattubo and Paoay. This initiative aimed to generate baseline data to guide future research-driven extension programs and evidence-based community interventions. The activity was led by the Director for Research, Dr. Michael Tomas Sebullen, in collaboration with the College of Nursing and School of Midwifery Research Coordinator, Mr. Hilario A. Sanglay, and the College of Business Administration Dean and Research Coordinator, Dr. Cherrie Mae M. Manuel. The integration of research and extension activities highlighted BCU’s holistic approach to community engagement, where service delivery is informed by systematic data gathering and collaborative planning.

The overall coordination of BCU’s participation in the Mobile Extension initiative was overseen by the University Extension Coordinator, Ms. Arlene A. Mintas, ensuring alignment with the University’s extension framework and strengthening collaboration with partner institutions under the CUBE Partnership.

Through this initiative, Baguio Central University reaffirmed its role as a socially responsive academic institution and a force for good in the Cordillera region. The activity strongly aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-Being) by expanding access to preventive healthcare services, SDG 4 (Quality Education) through service-learning and hands-on training for students, SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) by supporting local governance through community profiling, and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) through sustained inter-institutional collaboration. Collectively, these efforts reflect BCU’s commitment to ethical, inclusive, and community-responsive service that creates lasting, measurable impact beyond the campus.
