Beyond the Horizon: How a Mountainside Gathering is Defining the Future of Research at BCU

MT.CAMISONG — It was never just a Rest and Recreation.

High up in the serene landscapes of Mt. Camisong, a profound gathering took place. It brought together the silent visionaries, tireless coordinators, and dedicated research leaders who quietly yet powerfully shape the future of Benguet Central University (BCU).

Under the banner of “TAYABAK ng Karunungan: Green Research Leadership for Academic Year 2026–2027,” the event transcended typical strategic planning. It became a living testament to the power of shared stories, genuine laughter, deep reflections, and an unwavering commitment to institutional excellence and sustainability.

Behind every approved proposal, peer-reviewed publication, international research presentation, and impactful extension initiative is a dedicated network of research coordinators. Far from being mere administrative facilitators, these individuals serve as mentors, bridge-builders, innovators, and the steady heartbeat of BCU’s academic growth. They are the ones who choose to serve without needing the spotlight, ensuring that the university’s intellectual engine never stops running.

Since 2024, the Research and Development Center (RDC) has undergone a remarkable transformation. It has evolved into a stronger, more vibrant research community grounded in:

  • Collaboration: Breaking down silos to build interdisciplinary
  • Sustainability: Anchoring institutional growth in green, forward-thinking
  • Excellence: Elevating the standard of academic
  • Human-Centered Leadership: Prioritizing the people behind the

The mountainside reflection served as a poignant reminder that none of these milestone achievements were built in isolation. They are the fruits of collective perseverance.

Blooming with Purpose: The Tayabak Spirit

The theme of the gathering draws inspiration from the Tayabak flower—a rare, radiant jade vine that glows with a luminous beauty even in the deep shade of the canopy.

“Like the Tayabak flower—rare, radiant, and luminous in the dark

—every research leader in BCU continues to bloom with purpose, even in the most demanding seasons.”

A New Chapter Begins As the gathering on Mt. Camisong concluded, the consensus among the attendees was clear: this was not simply the end of an event. Instead, it marks the dawn of a bolder vision, a deeper commitment to collaboration, and a more empowered culture of research within the university.

Great institutions are rarely built by loud recognition or fleeting applause. They are built in the quiet spaces, by people who continue to work with fierce purpose even when no one is watching. Armed with the spirit of the Tayabak, BCU’s research leaders are stepping into Academic Year 2026–2027 ready to light up the dark and pave the way for a sustainable future.
