Bridging Classroom Learning and Employment: BCU-CBA Conducts Student Mock Interview

CBA students enrolled in Course 5: Human Resource Management at Baguio Central University (BCU) took part in a comprehensive Student Mock Interview activity held at the CBA Simulation Room last May 12, 2026. The activity was designed to provide students with practical exposure to real-world recruitment and selection processes through simulated job interviews conducted by industry professionals.

Students enrolled in Course 5: Human Resource Management with their instructor, CBA Dean, and the interviewers.

The mock interview was facilitated by distinguished industry practitioners Ms. Jamaica Luisa D. Simon, MAGC, and Ms. Caroline A. Ramos, who served as panelists and evaluators. Their participation provided students with valuable insights into current hiring practices and professional expectations in the workplace.

Dr. Cherrie Mae M. Manuel, CBA Dean, and Ms. Marga L. Taganas, CPA, MBA, award certificates of appreciation to the interviewers, Ms. Caroline A. Ramos and Ms. Jamaica Luisa D. Simon, MAGC.

Prior to the mock interview, students submitted updated resumes and cover letters for evaluation by the industry panelists, who provided feedback on both their application documents and interview performance. To simulate a professional hiring environment, participants were organized into groups of four and followed a structured interview schedule while observing proper business etiquette. During the interviews, students responded to questions related to their educational background, skills, internship experiences, career goals, and workplace problem-solving abilities. The activity also emphasized professionalism, requiring participants to wear appropriate business attire, communicate confidently, and remain actively engaged throughout the interview process.

As part of the course objectives, the mock interview activity aimed to bridge the gap between classroom learning and industry practice. By simulating actual interview conditions, students gained valuable experience in responding to common interview questions, managing time effectively, and presenting themselves professionally. The direct involvement of industry practitioners ensured that the feedback provided was relevant, practical, and actionable.

Through the resume critique and interview assessment conducted by the panelists, students were able to identify their strengths and recognize areas for improvement, helping them better prepare for future employment opportunities. The activity served as an essential component of the Human Resource Management course, reinforcing students’ understanding of recruitment processes while enhancing their confidence and career readiness.

The activity aligns with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4: Quality Education by providing students with experiential learning opportunities that enhance their practical knowledge, communication skills, and professional competencies beyond the classroom. It also supports SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth by preparing students for future employment through exposure to real-world recruitment and selection processes, resume evaluation, and industry-based feedback. Through the guidance of industry practitioners, students developed career readiness, improved employability skills, and gained confidence in navigating professional workplace expectations, thereby contributing to the development of a skilled and competitive workforce.
