Baguio Central University (BCU) showcased research from its academic units at the 4th International Research Colloquium, hosted by the University of Baguio through the UB TRANSCeNDS initiative. With the theme “Sustainable Development Goals through Researchers’ Lens,” the colloquium provided a forum for sharing research and discussing how scholarship can contribute to sustainable development.
BCU faculty and researchers presented studies addressing language learning, intercultural communication, the experiences of incarcerated mothers, institutional risk, artificial intelligence in cooperatives, credit management, and nursing student resilience.
Representing the College of Teacher Education and Liberal Arts (CTELA), Evangeline Angayen, Lovely P. Siblagan, Aiza Bheal Kitani, Teresa Lyn Matiwtiw, and Lyha Fias-Ilon presented “The Effectiveness of Computer-Assisted Language Learning (CALL) in Improving English Speaking Fluency of English Major Students.” Raiven Caugiran, Jallal Pandapatan Emanuel Vacunawa, Noreen Ongyaon, Ivan Manuel, Teresa Lyn Matiwtiw, and Jenema A. Himiwat presented “Students’ Perception of Intercultural Communication.”
During the colloquium’s SDG Good Practices Session, Dr. Michael T. Sebullen, BCU Director for Research, shared the University’s initiatives in research capability-building, mentoring, and Sustainable Development Goal integration. These initiatives help connect research with the UN 2030 Agenda by promoting evidence-informed approaches to challenges in education, health and well-being, institutional development, and sustainable communities.
BCU’s participation reflects its continuing commitment to strengthening research excellence, supporting its researchers, and building partnerships that enable scholarship to contribute to meaningful and sustainable development.
Collectively, the studies contribute to the UN 2030 Agenda by generating knowledge relevant to SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-Being), SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions). BCU’s participation in the international colloquium also advances SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by strengthening scholarly collaboration and knowledge-sharing across institutions and countries.
