One Ride, One Community, One Sustainable Future: BCU CCJE Interns Join UB Bikers Cycling Event

Writer: Ms. Rowena Gagno

The roads of Baguio City hummed with purpose as the University of Baguio, together with its UB Bikers and Allies group, organized a landmark cycling event anchored on the theme “ONE RIDE. ONE COMMUNITY. ONE SUSTAINABLE FUTURE.” What began as a call to pedal became a powerful statement — that sustainable living is not a solitary pursuit, but a journey made richer when undertaken together.

Baguio Central University Criminology Interns Take Part in the Cycling Event

Among those who joined the ride were four interns from Baguio Central University’s College of Criminal Justice Education (CCJE): John Wayne Pisto, Rey B. Neyney, Denver I. Eisma, and Lawrence Christian T. Natividad. Their participation reflected the growing commitment of BCU’s future criminology professionals to engage not only with issues of law and order, but also with the broader concerns of their communities — environmental stewardship, civic partnership, and social responsibility. The interns’ involvement was coordinated through the dedicated oversight of their CCJE coordinator, who ensured that the experience was both meaningful and aligned with BCU’s community extension objectives. Guiding them was Ms. Arlene Mintas, who led the coordination through Baguio Central University’s Community Extension arm. Her leadership ensured that the university’s students were not merely spectators, but active participants embodying BCU’s spirit of service and engagement.

The presence of community extension at such events speaks to the institution’s unwavering belief that education extends well beyond the four walls of a classroom.

This cycling initiative directly addresses SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) and SDG 13 (Climate Action) by promoting eco-friendly transportation and environmental stewardship in Baguio City. Furthermore, the collaborative participation of UB bikers and BCU CCJE interns strongly embodies SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), demonstrating that a sustainable future is built through collective civic engagement and social responsibility.
