CTELA Upholds Heritage and Tradition as Indigenous Peoples Month Kicks Off

By: Jenema H. Wacangan

On September 30, 2026, the College of Teacher Education and Liberal Arts (CTELA) Department officially kicked off Indigenous Peoples (IP) Month, reaffirming a shared commitment to honoring the rich heritage, traditions, and wisdom of Indigenous communities.

Dr. Michael Sebullen highlighted the importance of integrating rich cultural values, native languages, and enduring traditions into modern classrooms to ensure future generations remain grounded in their roots.

The activity was aligned with SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities – Honoring Indigenous Peoples Month and integrating traditional knowledge, cultural values, and indigenous languages into higher education fosters inclusive representation and equal opportunities for all cultural communities. Together with SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities – Preserving and safeguarding cultural heritage and indigenous wisdom ensures sustainable, culturally resilient communities for generations to come.
