Preparing future nurses for the evolving demands of healthcare requires forward-thinking education, strong professional leadership, and a sustained commitment to better patient outcomes. In support of these priorities, Dr. Gina L. Casi, RN, Dean of Baguio Central University’s College of Nursing and School of Midwifery, participated in the Association of Deans of Philippine Colleges of Nursing (ADPCN) Summer Conference held on June 5–6, 2025, at L’ Fisher Hotel in Bacolod City. Guided by the theme, “Preparing Future Nurses for Better Health & Professional Outcomes,” the conference provided a professional gathering centered on the continuing development of nursing education and the preparation of future nurses for the changing needs of the healthcare sector. This is being attended by deans from the different nursing schools in the Philippines, including faculty members and graduate students of nursing schools.
The conference theme highlighted the important responsibility of nursing educators and academic leaders in developing competent, ethical, and adaptable nursing professionals. As healthcare systems continue to evolve, nursing education must respond to emerging clinical demands, changing patient needs, and the importance of evidence-based practice. Professional gatherings such as the ADPCN Summer Conference offer opportunities for nursing leaders to engage with shared concerns, exchange perspectives, and reflect on approaches that can strengthen educational quality and professional preparation. Dr. Casi’s participation represented BCU’s engagement in broader professional discussions concerning the direction and development of nursing education in the Philippines.
The conference also underscored the relationship between academic leadership and the quality of future healthcare services. Deans and nursing educators play a significant role in shaping curricula, supporting faculty development, and establishing learning environments that prepare students for responsible clinical practice. By participating in professional conferences, academic leaders can broaden their understanding of current issues and consider approaches relevant to their respective institutions. For BCU’s College of Nursing and School of Midwifery, participation in such professional activities reflects the importance of continued engagement with the nursing education community. Specific conference resolutions, new partnerships, or institutional initiatives arising from the event would need to be verified before being reported as confirmed outcomes.
The conference aligns most directly with Sustainable Development Goal 4: Quality Education, as its focus on preparing future nurses highlights the importance of quality professional education, relevant competencies, and continuous learning. It also supports Sustainable Development Goal 3: Good Health and Well-Being, because competent nursing professionals are essential to delivering safe, effective, and responsive healthcare services. These two goals reflect the direct connection between strengthening nursing education and preparing a workforce capable of contributing to improved health outcomes.
Through Dr. Casi’s participation in the ADPCN Summer Conference, BCU reaffirmed the importance of professional engagement and educational leadership in advancing nursing education. The gathering served as a reminder that preparing future nurses extends beyond classroom instruction; it requires continuous professional learning, collaboration among educators, and a shared commitment to developing healthcare professionals who can meet the needs of patients and communities with competence, integrity, and compassion.
