Baguio Central University College of Nursing and School of Midwifery (CNSM), showcased its student and faculty research contributions during the 3rd Research Innovation for Sustainable Education (RISE) 2025 and the International Conference on Research and Exhibits on Aviation, Aeronautics, Tourism, Engineering and Education (ICREATE), held from May 28–30, 2025, at WCC Aeronautical and Technological College, Inc., in Binalonan, Pangasinan. With the theme emphasizing interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary presentations, SDG-focused collaboration, and technological innovation, the conference provided a platform for researchers and educators to share knowledge, present research findings, and explore innovative approaches to addressing challenges in education and healthcare.

Representing the college, Ms. Olea Romero, a clinical instructor, presented the research entitled “Teaching Styles and Teaching Strategies: The Road to Effective Classroom Instruction” during Parallel Session 6: Education Technology IV. The study highlighted the importance of teaching approaches and instructional strategies in supporting effective classroom learning. Meanwhile, Mr. Cyril Pacis, a fourth-year nursing student, presented his group’s research entitled “Somnolence and its Effect on Nursing Students’ Academic Performance at Baguio Central University” during Parallel Session 10: Health Technology III. The research addressed sleepiness and its potential relationship with academic performance among nursing students, highlighting an area of interest in student well-being and academic achievement.

Another notable contribution came from Ms. Kristel Alcantara, a fourth-year nursing student, who presented her group’s study entitled “Challenges and Resilience: How Parents Navigate A Child’s Cancer Diagnosis” during Parallel Session 8: Health Technology I. Her presentation received the Best Presenter Award, recognizing her presentation performance at the conference. The research focused on the challenges experienced by parents following a child’s cancer diagnosis and the resilience involved in navigating this difficult experience. This achievement highlighted the research engagement of BCU nursing students and their capacity to communicate research topics relevant to family experiences and healthcare.

Beyond the research presentations, BCU-CNSM faculty members contributed to the conference through their roles as evaluators. Dr. Gina Casi, dean of the College of Nursing and School of Midwifery, served as an evaluator for Parallel Session 9: Health Technology II, while Mr. Hilario Sanglay, a clinical and research instructor, evaluated presentations in Parallel Session 10: Health Technology III. Their participation reflected the college’s involvement not only in producing and presenting research but also in supporting scholarly evaluation and academic exchange.

The college’s participation in RISE 2025 and ICREATE demonstrated its commitment to research development, interdisciplinary collaboration, and academic excellence. By presenting studies on teaching effectiveness, nursing students’ academic performance, and parental resilience in childhood cancer, BCU-CNSM contributed research perspectives relevant to education, student well-being, and healthcare. The Best Presenter Award received by Ms. Alcantara was a notable achievement for the college, while the participation of faculty members and students provided opportunities to share scholarly work and engage with the wider research community.

The conference also connects with several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). SDG 4: Quality Education is directly relevant to the research on teaching strategies and the promotion of scholarly learning. SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being relates to the studies on somnolence among nursing students and the experiences of parents navigating a child’s cancer diagnosis. SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure aligns with the conference’s emphasis on research innovation and technological advancement, while SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals reflects the value of interdisciplinary collaboration and knowledge exchange among academic institutions and researchers.

Through its participation in this international research conference, Baguio Central University’s College of Nursing and School of Midwifery reaffirmed the importance of research as a foundation for evidence-informed education, healthcare practice, and community understanding. The presentations, faculty contributions, and recognition earned by its student researcher demonstrated the college’s continuing efforts to cultivate inquiry, strengthen research communication, and support the development of future healthcare professionals who can contribute meaningful knowledge to their fields.
