BCU Conducts Suicide Prevention Month Activities to Promote Mental Health Awareness Among Students

Baguio Central University (BCU) conducted a series of Suicide Prevention Month activities from September 24 to October 8, 2025, to promote mental health awareness among students across its academic units for Academic Year 2025–2026. Through talks, interactive discussions, role-playing exercises, and group activities, the initiative encouraged students to engage in conversations about suicide prevention and the importance of mental health and well-being.

The activities involved students from the College of Nursing and School of Midwifery (CONSM), College of Hospitality and Tourism Management (CHTM), College of Criminal Justice Education (CCJE), Senior High School (SHS), College of Engineering (COE), College of Teacher Education and Liberal Arts (CTELA), College of Business Administration (CBA), Laboratory Elementary School (LES), and Junior High School (JHS). Sessions were held at WEMS Hall, MJF Function Hall, and Magsaysay Auditorium.

The program featured talks and interactive sessions facilitated by BCU guidance personnel, including Ms. Rufina Cas-oy, Guidance Advocate of BCU SHS; Ma’am Judith R. Adina, Head of the BCU Guidance Office; Ms. Dannadrae Roy, Guidance Advocate of BCU College; and Ms. Lhara Mae Khayog, LES and JHS Guidance Advocate. Ms. Emalyn Maranes, BCU Psychometrician, was also among the personnel involved in the initiative.

During the sessions, students participated in discussions, question-and-answer portions, and recitations, sharing their insights on the topics presented. Role-playing exercises provided opportunities for students to engage with different scenarios, while energizer activities, including a mental health word search and the “This or That?” activity, encouraged participation and interaction.

CONSM students actively joined the discussions and shared their perspectives during the suicide prevention talk. CHTM students participated in role-playing and question-and-answer activities, while CCJE students engaged in role-playing exercises and a mental health word search. SHS students gathered at the Magsaysay Auditorium for their session, which included interactive activities and discussions facilitated by guidance personnel. Similar activities were conducted for COE, CTELA, CBA, LES, and JHS students.

Through these activities, BCU emphasized the importance of mental health awareness and suicide prevention within the academic community. The initiative highlighted the value of open discussions, student participation, and guidance services in fostering a supportive learning environment where mental health concerns can be addressed with understanding and care.

The initiative supports Sustainable Development Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being, particularly its focus on mental health, through educational activities that promote suicide prevention awareness and encourage attention to student well-being.
