Baguio Central University (BCU) successfully hosted its 13th University Research Colloquium on October 9, 2024, at the Margarita J. Fernandez Hall. With the theme “Building a Culture of Research Through Dissemination,” the event gathered esteemed professors and employees of BCU from various disciplines, fostering a platform to share and critically assess research initiatives that contribute to institutional development.

The program began with a warm welcome from Dr. Elma D. Donaal, Vice President for Academic Affairs, who emphasized the importance of research in shaping BCU’s academic direction and strengthening its commitment to knowledge dissemination. The day’s agenda was packed with insightful presentations from faculty members, with topics ranging from community engagement to institutional NSTP challenges, lived experiences of retirees and academic standards
The first part of the colloquium featured completed institutional research presentations. Among the notable studies was Dr. Perfecto M. Lopez’s presentation on exploration of the journeys of BCU retirees and Ms. Arlene A. Mintas’s impactful assessment of the A.G.S.H.A.N. Program, which highlighted how community needs assessments drive BCU’s extension programs and the Mr. Inowe’s challenges encountered by NSTP students.

Following the mid-morning break, a keynote message was delivered by Mr. Karl Matthieu B. Rillera, the University marketing officer, who commended the university’s faculty and students for their commitment to advancing research. He stressed that fostering a research-driven culture is integral to BCU’s pursuit of academic excellence and service to society.

The colloquium’s second half was dedicated to proposals for future research. Topics included analyses of employee job satisfaction, accreditation standards, and the professional journeys of graduates. These proposals aim to inform future policy decisions and improve institutional practices within BCU. One of the highlights of the afternoon session was the presentation by Dr. Avilardo B. Leon on the ethical integration and policy development for generative AI in higher education, a timely subject as digital education transforms learning environments worldwide. The event concluded with the awarding of certificates to presenters and panel members. The colloquium was a resounding success, inspiring participants to continue contributing to the university’s mission of building a culture of research that informs, engages, and impacts the community.
With this year’s colloquium, BCU once again demonstrated its unwavering dedication to research as a cornerstone of higher education. As Dr. Sebullen noted in his closing remarks, “Together, we transform knowledge into action, building a future shaped by collaboration, dedication, and the power of shared ideas.”
