Baguio Central University College of Nursing and School of Midwifery (CNSM), conducted a tree-planting and clean-up drive at Lovers’ Mountain in Virac, Itogon, Benguet on October 28, 2025, despite the academic break. The initiative brought together nursing and midwifery students, faculty members, and university administrators in a shared effort to promote environmental stewardship and community responsibility. With 300 seedlings planted, the activity demonstrated BCU’s commitment to extending environmental awareness beyond the classroom and encouraging students to participate in practical initiatives that support local environmental protection.
Spearheaded by BSN 4A3 and Mr. Allan P. Guinanghan, the College’s community extension coordinator, the activity involved Student Government Organization (SGO) representatives and volunteer students from the School of Midwifery and Bachelor of Science in Nursing programs, covering students from the second to fourth year. The group was accompanied by the CNSM dean, Dr. Gina L. Casi, and faculty members Mr Eduardo Lofstedt Jr. and Ms. Olea P. Romero. In addition to planting the seedlings, participants conducted a clean-up drive in the designated area, combining vegetation restoration efforts with the removal of waste from the surrounding environment. These complementary activities encouraged students to recognize the importance of maintaining clean public spaces and protecting natural resources through collective action.

The activity was undertaken with the permission and support of Barangay Captain Hon. Nestor Martillano and barangay staff, who facilitated the group’s environmental initiative in the area. BCU CONSOM also acknowledged the sponsor who provided the 300 seedlings planted during the activity. The participation of students, university personnel, local officials, and the seedling sponsor illustrated the role of community partnerships in organizing environmental activities and mobilizing resources for local initiatives.
The activity aligns primarily with Sustainable Development Goal 15 (Life on Land) through tree planting and efforts that support the protection and restoration of terrestrial environments. It also supports SDG 13 (Climate Action) by promoting tree planting and environmental awareness, while SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) is relevant to the clean-up drive and the shared responsibility of maintaining cleaner public spaces. Furthermore, SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) is reflected in the cooperation among BCU, barangay officials, student volunteers, university personnel, and the seedling sponsor. Through its combined tree-planting and clean-up activities, BCU demonstrated how community extension can engage students in practical environmental action while strengthening collaboration with local stakeholders
