BAGUIO CITY, September 28, 2026 — From a welcome led by university officials to conversations with students and community beneficiaries, Baguio Central University’s first day of PACUCOA reaccreditation put its Business Administration and Hospitality Management programs into action.
The Philippine Association of Colleges and Universities Commission on Accreditation (PACUCOA) is conducting a Level II second reaccreditation visit for BCU’s Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management programs on September 28–29. The visit examines how the programs have sustained their standards, supported student learning, and addressed recommendations from earlier reviews. It also gives the University an independent assessment to guide further improvement.
The day began with a short program introducing the visiting team and BCU’s Management Council. Dr. Michael T. Sebullen, Vice President for Administration, introduced the Council members to the accreditors. The University’s welcome was led by Dr. Elma D. Donaal, Vice President for Academic Affairs and overall chairperson of the visit, together with Ms. Amalia F. Ancheta, Vice President for Finance; Dr. Cherrie Mae M. Manuel, Dean of the College of Business Administration; Dr. Jocelyn B. Ang, Dean of the College of Hospitality and Tourism Management; and Engr. Onofre F. Rillera, Sr., MSCE, Consultant to the President for Physical Facilities and Dean of the College of Engineering.
Following the introductions, the team began verifying the documents submitted for review. Dr. Ferdinand Somido, chairperson of the visiting team, is assigned Philosophy and Objectives and Organization and Administration for both programs. Dr. John Ericson Policarpio evaluates Faculty, Instruction, Laboratories, and Employability for Hospitality Management, while Dr. Julio Esmade reviews those areas for Business Administration. Ms. Yendy Reyes evaluates the Library for both programs; Engr. Favis Joseph Balinado covers Physical Plant and Facilities and Research; and Engr. Joyrence Mervin Agas reviews Student Services and Social Orientation and Community Involvement.
The review extended beyond the submitted documents. Accompanied by University Extension Coordinator Ms. Arlene A. Mintas, Engr. Agas visited BCU’s adopted community in Purok 27 and spoke with beneficiaries of its extension programs. Other members of the accreditation team held dialogues with students, teaching personnel, and nonteaching staff, bringing their experiences into the evaluation.
Hospitality and Tourism Management students also helped welcome the visitors by handling food service and hospitality arrangements. Their participation gave them an opportunity to put classroom learning into practice during an important university event.
The visit reflects BCU’s contribution to the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, particularly SDG 4: Quality Education, through the continuous review of its academic programs. By preparing students for careers and enterprise, the two programs also support SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth.
For the faculty, staff, students, and community partners involved, Day 1 offered a chance to present their work and share their experiences directly with the accreditors. The evaluation continues September 29, when BCU looks forward to further insights that can help strengthen both programs.
