BCU Representatives Participate in Youth Mental Health Advocate Seminar

Baguio Central University (BCU) participated in the Youth as Mental Health Advocate Seminar held on August 26–28, 2026, at Parallel Hall, 7th Floor, Hotel Tugos, Baguio City. The three-day training was organized by the Philippine Mental Health Association Cordillera Chapter Inc. (PMHA CCI), with the support of the Department of Health–Center for Health Development–Cordillera Administrative Region (DOH CHD-CAR).

Representing BCU were Jane Cabugos and Deberlyn Notarte, who joined the capacity-building initiative focused on empowering young people to become mental health advocates.

The seminar was conducted under the Youth Life Skills Program: A Preventive Mental Health Initiative Empowering Youth Advocates. It aimed to equip youth leaders with the knowledge and skills necessary to promote mental health awareness and prevention and to develop concrete action plans for implementation within their respective school communities.

BCU’s participation builds on its partnership with PMHA CCI following the Advisers as Mental Health Advocate Seminar held on June 25–26, 2026. These initiatives underscore the importance of collaboration among educational institutions and mental health organizations in supporting mental health awareness and youth well-being.

Results and Next Steps

BCU’s participation provided an opportunity to engage in a mental health advocacy initiative centered on youth empowerment and prevention. Further details on the participants’ learning experiences, proposed action plans, and follow-up activities should be confirmed with the University representatives before publication.

SDG Connection

The initiative supports SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being through its focus on mental health awareness and prevention. It also aligns with SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals through collaboration among PMHA CCI, DOH CHD-CAR, and participating educational institutions.
