Baguio Central University’s College of Business Administration held a successful community outreach at Tocmo Integrated School on July 8, 2025, featuring a seminar-workshop titled “Brand Smart: Design Your Business Identity” for junior and senior high school students to empower them with practical tips on building business identity, encourage creativity and inspire entrepreneurial mindset and confidence for their future academic and professional pursuits.
Despite an initially unfavorable weather forecast, the BCU team set out with great enthusiasm to share their knowledge to future business leaders in Tocmo. Upon arrival, they were warmly welcomed by School Principal Dr. Rinan C. Bruno- himself a proud alumna of BCU’s Graduate School- alongside the dedicated faculty and eager students. The program commenced on a high note with a heartfelt song of praise performed by the talented students of TIS, setting a positive and inspiring tone for the day. Dr. Rinan expressed his gratitude for the BCU team’s visit, noting that the weather seemed to improve with their arrival, which further lifted everyone’s spirits. With excitement building, Dr. Jolly Mariacos, serving as the master of ceremonies, introduced the speakers marking the beginning of a meaningful and engaging learning experience.
The session continued with Ms. Marga Taganas, also a CBA faculty, who shared best practices on designing impactful brand logos. Students were then divided into groups and tasked with creating their own brand names and logos to promote products and services within their community. After the lunch break, Ms. Marga led the afternoon session with a focused discussion on the dos and don’ts of creating compelling taglines.
The students actively engaged once again in group work, developing catchy taglines for their brands. Throughout the seminar, the interactive format encouraged lively participation, with students eagerly sharing ideas and responding thoughtfully to the speakers’ questions, making the learning experience both dynamic and practical.
At the conclusion of the seminar-workshop, students successfully generated a total of fifteen creative brand names, each accompanied by original logos and taglines. With the collaborative support of faculty members from Tocmo Integrated School, the standout entries for best brand name, best logo, and best tagline were carefully selected and recognized.
To honor the valuable partnership and contributions of both institutions, certificates of appreciation were awarded to Baguio Central University’s College of Business Administration and Tocmo Integrated School. Additionally, the enthusiastic participation of the TIS students was acknowledged with certificates of participation.
In addition to the seminar-workshop, Dr. Jolly Mariacos, Mr. Junik Cris Calahi and Mr. Jherwel Buanafe took the initiative to install Learning Management Systems on the school’s tablets for Grades 1 to 6, specifically targeting reading and Mathematics. This strategic initiative aims to enhance interactive learning and streamline instructional delivery in basic education. A generous donation from a CBA alumna played a crucial role in the success of this activity, providing essential resources to support the implementation of the outreach program.
This successful community outreach truly reflects Baguio Central University’s College of Business Administration’s heartfelt commitment to empowering communities- starting with the bright, aspiring business leaders of tomorrow- bridging the gap between academic excellence and real-world impact. Through initiatives like this, the college plays a vital role in fostering sustainable growth supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Quality Education (SDG 4), Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure (SDG 9), and Partnerships for the Goals (SDG 17), proving that meaningful change begins when education meets genuine care beyond the university walls.
