
Baguio Central University (BCU) successfully conducted its 2nd Student Research Orientation on January 15, 2025, at the BCU Auditorium, Magsaysay Campus. With the theme “Building a Culture of Research Through Dissemination,” the event brought together 232 students and 27 faculty members across degree programs, highlighting the University’s commitment to fostering research excellence. This activity was organized by all the research coordinators in each department under the leadership of the new Director for Research, Dr. Michael Tomas Sebullen, CRS, PhD. It marked the first student activity for the second semester of the school year 2024-2025.
The orientation began with an inspiring message from Dr. Elma D. Donaal, Vice President for Academic Affairs, who underscored the vital role of research in advancing knowledge and societal development. The event featured a lineup of distinguished speakers who shared insights on the value and process of research. Mr. Francisco L. Soriano, Science Research Specialist from the Philippine Science High School CAR Campus, emphasized the transformative power of research in driving innovation, shaping policies, and solving national challenges. Dr. Genevieve Balance Kupang, Graduate School Dean and Research Coordinator, discussed the importance of research integrity and adherence to global standards such as APA 7th edition and IMRaD format, inspiring students to pursue quality outputs. Ms. Aiza Bheal M. Kitani, Research Coordinator for the College of Teacher Education and Liberal Arts, delved into the ethics of research publication, emphasizing the responsibilities researchers carry when disseminating their work. Ms. Kyla Ordiz, from C and E Publishing Company, introduced the Philippine E-Journals (PEJ), showcasing its role in providing access to credible references and opportunities for student research publication.


The orientation concluded with closing remarks from Dr. Michael T. Sebullen, Director for Research, who encouraged students to maximize the resources and support offered by the university. He highlighted that with the right guidance and infrastructure, research productivity is within reach. The event also served as an avenue for vibrant discussions and interactions among students and faculty, creating a dynamic and engaging atmosphere for learning.
Aligned with the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Memorandum Order No. 20, series of 2011, the orientation reaffirmed BCU’s mission to develop globally competitive graduates who contribute meaningfully to their fields and society. The university continues to lead in fostering a culture of research excellence, inspiring its students to be agents of innovation and positive change.
