The College of Teacher Education and Liberal Arts conducted a mock job interview program on April 27, for student teachers in preparation for their employment.

The activity aimed to simulate actual hiring scenarios, allowing participants to develop their communication skills, demonstrate their pedagogical knowledge, and build confidence in facing job interviews. The program forms part of BCU’s ongoing efforts to equip graduating students with the skills, confidence, and professionalism needed to successfully enter the teaching profession.

Dr. Elma D. Donaal, Vice President for Academic Affairs, opened the program by emphasizing the importance of preparation and professionalism among future educators. She encouraged participants to take the activity seriously as part of their transition from academic life to professional careers.

During the program, Ma’am Jamaica Luisa D. Simeon, Human Resources Representative of BCU, provided practical tips on handling interviews effectively. She highlighted the importance of answering questions with confidence, maintaining proper body language, and clearly presenting one’s strengths.

“Before anything else, preparation is the key to success,” Simeon said.

She also introduced the T.E.A.C.H. method as a guide for delivering clear and compelling responses. According to Simeon, this means telling one’s story by sharing the journey as a future educator while highlighting passion and purpose; expressing confidence by speaking clearly, showing energy, and believing in one’s abilities; answering with structure by staying focused and using methods such as the STAR technique, which stands for Situation, Task, Action, and Result; citing examples by providing real experiences that demonstrate one’s capabilities; and highlighting strengths by emphasizing relevant skills and qualifications.

Dr. Perfecto M. Lopez, Vice President for Administration, discussed the importance of professional appearance, stressing that appropriate attire creates a positive first impression and reflects respect for both the institution and the profession.

“People will treat you the way they see you,” Lopez stated.

Participants underwent a realistic interview simulation and answered common interview questions before a panel composed of Ma’am Aiza Beal Kitani, Ma’am Teresa Matiwtiw, and Ma’am Shean Salem from the CTELA faculty; Ma’am Judith R. Adina, head of the Guidance Office; Ma’am Jamaica Luisa D. Simeon from the Human Resources Office; and Sir Yanlee C. Sumahey from the CNSM Faculty Member.

Following the mock interview session, the panel provided constructive feedback, identifying both strengths and areas for improvement to further enhance participants’ interview performance.

The program concluded with closing remarks from Dr. Lourdes M. Trajano, dean of the CTELA, who commended the participants for their active involvement and encourage to continue developing their professional skill.

Through this initiative, BCU through CTELA, reinforced its commitment to preparing future educators for successful careers by bridging academic preparation with practical employment readiness.
