Preparing future healthcare professionals begins with providing them the guidance and support they need to succeed. In line with this commitment, Baguio Central University (BCU), through its College of Nursing and School of Midwifery, organized an orientation program designed to help students better understand their academic responsibilities, available support services, and the expectations of their chosen professions.
The activity brought students, faculty members, and staff together for discussions that encouraged active participation, knowledge-sharing, and a clearer understanding of the journey toward becoming nursing and midwifery professionals. Dr. Elma D. Donaal, Vice President for Academic Affairs, and Dr. Michael T. Sebullen, Vice President for Administration, were recognized for their continued leadership and support. Appreciation was also extended to Ma’am Judith R. Adina, Head of the Guidance Services Office, for helping provide students with direction and guidance throughout their academic journey.
Faculty members contributed their expertise and experiences to help students appreciate the opportunities and responsibilities associated with healthcare careers. Meanwhile, the staff ensured the smooth coordination of the program, creating an environment conducive to learning and engagement.
Beyond introducing academic expectations, the orientation highlighted the importance of personal growth, professional discipline, and compassionate service. These qualities are essential in nursing and midwifery, where knowledge and technical skills must be accompanied by empathy, integrity, and a strong sense of responsibility toward patients and communities.
The initiative supports Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4: Quality Education by promoting student guidance and a supportive learning environment. It also relates to SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being, as preparing knowledgeable and responsible future healthcare professionals contributes to stronger health services. Additionally, its emphasis on ethical conduct and institutional responsibility connects with SDG 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions.
Through this initiative, BCU underscores the importance of student-centered support in developing future professionals who are equipped not only to meet academic and professional standards but also to make meaningful contributions to society. The orientation marks another step in fostering a learning community where education, compassion, and professional excellence work hand in hand.
