Shilan, La Trinidad, Benguet, Philippines — In an inspiring display of leadership and commitment to advancing education, Baguio Central University (BCU) sent a distinguished team to the Filipino Leaders in Advancing International Reputation (F.L.A.I.R.) Uplift Masterclass 2024, a two-day event dedicated to reimagining higher education through global perspectives and sustainable practices. Organized by the Commission on Higher Education – Cordillera Administrative Region (CHED-CAR), the masterclass brought together leaders from academic institutions across the region to exchange ideas and explore pathways toward a brighter future for education.
Representing BCU were Dr. Genevieve B. Kupang, Dean of the Graduate School and International Relations Officer; Dr. Gina L. Casi, Dean of the College of Nursing and School of Midwifery; Dr. Michael T. Sebullen, Director for Research; Engr. Lorelie S. Malit, University Property Custodian and Occupational Health and Safety Officer; and Ms. Sheena Pearl L. Pangda, Head of the Student Services Office. Each of these delegates actively participated in workshops, discussions, and collaborative sessions, sharing BCU’s unique insights while also gathering valuable strategies from other institutions.
Held at the Infinity Ground and Felideon Hall, the masterclass featured sessions on redefining global higher education, incorporating sustainability into academia, and fostering inclusive environments for diverse student populations. BCU’s delegation engaged fully in these discussions, all with an eye on enhancing their university’s programs and reinforcing its commitment to academic excellence and social impact.
The event also provided an in-depth look into the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings and the World Universities with Real Impact (WURI) rankings, highlighting the critical role of sustainability and innovation in shaping globally competitive educational institutions. The BCU delegates were particularly inspired by these insights, especially as they consider future strategies for sustainable practices and student engagement at BCU.
With a renewed sense of purpose, BCU’s team concluded the masterclass more committed than ever to integrating these global insights into their institution’s journey. Their participation in the FLAIR Masterclass underscores BCU’s mission to produce globally competent graduates who are ready to make meaningful contributions to society. The event served as a milestone in BCU’s dedication to excellence, collaboration, and positive change in the field of higher education.
