Baguio Central University (BCU) joined educators, authors, publishers, and book enthusiasts at the 2026 Manila International Book Fair (MIBF), which opened on September 9, 2026, at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City. The five-day gathering, running until September 13, features book launches, educational exhibits, media conferences, and literary activities aimed at promoting literacy and lifelong learning.
BCU’s participation in the country’s largest and longest-running book fair was initiated by University President Dr. Margarita Cecilia B. Rillera through University Chief Librarian Ms. Clarence K. Fagyan. The initiative reflects the University’s commitment to strengthening its library collections, enriching instructional resources, and supporting the academic and research needs of its students and faculty members.
The BCU delegation included Vice President for Finance Ms. Amalia F. Ancheta and Vice President for Administration and concurrent Director of the Research and Development Center Dr. Michael Tomas Sebullen. Also participating were the college deans: Dr. Cherrie Mae M. Manuel of the College of Business Administration; Dr. Jocelyn B. Ang of the College of Hospitality and Tourism Management; Engr. Onofre F. Rillera of the College of Engineering; Dr. Lourdes M. Trajano of the College of Teacher Education and Liberal Arts; Dr. Gina L. Casi of the College of Nursing and School of Midwifery; and Ms. Beca May P. Palitayan of the College of Criminal Justice Education. University Extension Coordinator Ms. Arlene A. Mintas likewise took part in this institutional endeavor.
During the fair, the BCU delegates explored a wide selection of academic publications, reference materials, textbooks, and emerging educational resources that may contribute to curriculum enhancement, research development, community extension, and innovative teaching across the University. Prominent publishers, including Adarna House, Rex Book Store, and Phoenix Publishing House, displayed materials for learners and educators from various disciplines. University presses from institutions such as the University of the Philippines, University of Santo Tomas, and Far Eastern University also showcased scholarly and creative works produced by their faculty members and students.
BCU’s participation in the MIBF demonstrates the administration’s collective commitment to ensuring that the University remains responsive to changing educational needs. Through the leadership of Dr. Rillera and the collaboration of the University’s academic and administrative officials, BCU continues to invest in knowledge resources that advance academic excellence, research productivity, creative inquiry, and a vibrant culture of reading throughout the University community.
