September 9, 2026

On September 9, 2026, Baguio Central University (BCU) celebrated Buwan ng Wika under the theme “AI: Kasangkapan sa Pananaliksik at Tulay Yaman ng Impormasyon.” The program highlighted the continuing value of the Filipino language in education and research, alongside the rise of artificial intelligence (AI) as a new tool for accessing and exchanging information.

In line with SDG 4 – Quality Education, the university aimed to educate students on using AI in research and to nurture love and pride for one’s native language. In line with SDG 9 – Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, BCU sought to promote the proper use of AI as an informational tool that develops and enhances students’ education, with innovation at both the educational and institutional levels as the goal.

The event was led by Dr. Michael T. Sebullen, Vice President for Administration and Research Director. He described AI as an instrument for inquiry, with technology serving as a bridge that opens broader and more extensive research opportunities.

Organized by Ms. Arlene Mintas and attended by students from various BCU colleges, the program aimed to strengthen appreciation for the Filipino language, recognize the country’s diverse linguistic and cultural communities, and unite them through a shared language. Students showcased their talents through singing and poetry presentations by representatives of different colleges. Students from the Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEED), College of Business Administration (CBA), and Bachelor of Secondary Education major in Filipino (BSED-Filipino) also delivered lively intermission performances that enriched the celebration.

Beyond displaying artistic ability, the performances highlighted language as a medium for expression, identity, and cultural preservation, supporting SDG 11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities through the safeguarding of the nation’s cultural heritage. The participation of various colleges also fostered unity, in the spirit of SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals, by bringing diverse voices together in a shared celebration of linguistic and cultural heritage.

The program also paid tribute to Manuel L. Quezon, widely recognized as the Father of the National Language, for his significant contributions in promoting a language that unites Filipinos and preserves the nation’s cultural legacy.

Leomar S. Am-Amlan a student from CHTM won the 1st Place in Singing Contest.

The College of Hospitality and Tourism Management (CHTM) placed in four categories, where its students demonstrated their patriotism and love for the national language:
