CCJE-SGO Supports Project D.O.O.R.S., Promoting Rehabilitation and Second Chances for Persons Deprived of Liberty

By Lara Nicole G. Antonio

September 22, 2026-The College of Criminal Justice Education Student Government Organization, together with its adviser, Ma’am Laura Stephanie Gulla, expressed its support for Project D.O.O.R.S. (Delivering Outreach, Opportunity, Reintegration and Services), an initiative of the Baguio City Jail–Female Dormitory that promotes rehabilitation, livelihood development, and reintegration opportunities for Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL).

The initiative showcases a variety of products created by PDL, including freshly baked bread, pastries, snacks, handcrafted bags, and other handmade items. These products demonstrate the creativity, dedication, and developing skills of individuals who are working toward personal growth and a more productive future.

Through Project D.O.O.R.S., the sale of these products helps generate funds to support the welfare, skills development, and self-sufficiency of PDL. More importantly, the initiative provides opportunities for them to develop practical skills, gain productive experiences, and prepare for their eventual return to the community.

The participation of CCJE-SGO reflects the organization’s commitment to promoting compassion, social responsibility, and inclusive community involvement. By supporting the initiative, student leaders help raise awareness of the importance of rehabilitation and the need to provide individuals with opportunities to rebuild their lives. The activity also reminds the community that people who have been deprived of liberty deserve opportunities to learn, improve themselves, and work toward a better future.

For future criminal justice professionals, supporting programs such as Project D.O.O.R.S. reinforces the importance of rehabilitation alongside accountability. It highlights the role of education, livelihood opportunities, and community support in helping PDL develop positive habits and prepare for successful reintegration into society.

This initiative supports Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, by promoting livelihood opportunities and skills development, and SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities, by encouraging the inclusion and empowerment of marginalized individuals. It also directly aligns with SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, which promotes access to justice, effective institutions, and peaceful societies. Through its support for Project D.O.O.R.S., CCJE-SGO encourages the community to recognize the value of rehabilitation, support meaningful second chances, and contribute to a more inclusive and compassionate society.
