Write-up by: Ramirez P. Emingan and Romalyn O. Tipayno

A fire prevention seminar and training were conducted by the college of hospitality and tourism management last March 19, 2025 at Wilhelmina Elizabeth Margarita Salvacion (WEMS) Hall and at BCU Function Hall, with a theme “Empowering HTM students: Advocate of Fire Safety and Prevention”.

The seminar and training were conducted by SFO1 Dominador C. Bagano and FO2 Garrieth L. Dorian of Baguio Fire Prevention Office.  The Fire Prevention seminar and training aimed to educate CHTM students about the importance of fire safety, prevention strategies, and effective emergency response protocols. These seminars serve as a proactive measure to reduce fire incidents and enhance overall safety consciousness.

SFO1 Dominador C. Bagano having a demo on how to operate and use the fire extinguisher in times of fire that improved organizational safety culture.

The objectives of the seminar and training is to raise awareness and educate CHTM students about common fire hazards in various environments, including workplaces, schools, homes, and public spaces where they can apply in the future.

The CHTM students are having a return demo using a fire extinguisher. Students had hands-on training and demonstrations on how to operate fire extinguishers, conduct fire drills, and execute evacuation plans effectively.

The seminars tackle the preventive measures that teach practical steps to prevent fires, such as proper handling of electrical equipment, safe storage of flammable materials, and maintaining clear escape routes. The emergency response skills that equip CHTM students with essential knowledge on how to respond during a fire emergency, including evacuation procedures, use of fire extinguishers, and reporting protocols. And the compliance and regulations which inform the school and organizations about relevant fire safety laws, codes, and standards to ensure compliance and avoid penalties.

Dr. Jocelyn B. Ang the CHTM dean hand over the certificate and a token of appreciation to our speaker and trainer SFO1 Dominador C. Bagano.

The students were able to enhance their knowledge and skills to prevent fire incidents, reduced risk of injuries, fatalities, and property damage and increased confidence in handling emergency situations.

CHTM students had fire prevention seminars and training to step towards fostering a safer school community and workplace. By empowering students with the right knowledge and skills, these programs contribute significantly to minimizing fire risks and ensuring swift, effective responses when emergencies occur. Investing in fire safety education not only protects lives and property but also promotes a culture of safety and responsibility across all sectors.
