From Detection to Defense: CCJE Strengthens EOD Awareness and Firearms Safety Proficiency

By Lara Nicole G. Antonio, SGO Secretary

The Baguio Central University College of Criminal Justice Education conducted a seminar titled “From Detection to Defense: Building Competence in EOD and Firearms Proficiency” on April 30, 2026, at the BCU-CCJE Amphitheater. The activity aimed to enhance students’ tactical knowledge, firearm safety awareness, and understanding of explosive ordnance safety to prepare them for future careers in the criminal justice field.

The seminar featured two key sessions: Firearm Safety Education and Project A.B.K.D. (Awareness of Bombs that Kill Lives and Destroy Properties). These sessions gave participants essential knowledge on responsible firearm handling, safety precautions, and appropriate responses to potential explosive hazards.

The event featured guest lecturers from the City EOD and Canine Unit Baguio and the PNP Regional Mobile Force Battalion 15 (Cordillera), who shared their expertise and professional knowledge with the CCJE students. Their participation highlighted the importance of specialized training, public safety awareness, and cooperation between academic institutions and law enforcement agencies in preparing future criminal justice professionals.

The seminar also emphasized that competence in the criminal justice field requires more than theoretical knowledge. Students must develop discipline, responsibility, and a strong commitment to public safety. Through activities like this, CCJE provides opportunities for students to learn from experienced professionals and gain a deeper understanding of the safety standards and responsibilities expected of future practitioners.

The seminar succeeded through the active participation of CCJE students, the dedication of the SGO officers, and the guidance of SGO Adviser Ms. Laura Stephanie Eugenio Gulla. The activity was conducted under the leadership of OIC-Dean Ms. Beca May P. Palitayan, MSCJSC, whose support helped implement this educational initiative.

This initiative supports Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4: Quality Education, by promoting practical learning and developing the knowledge and skills of future criminal justice professionals. It also aligns with SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, which emphasizes peaceful communities, effective institutions, and public safety. By strengthening students’ awareness of firearm safety and explosive hazard prevention, CCJE continues to promote responsible, competent, and safety-conscious future criminologists committed to serving their communities.
