BAGUIO CENTRAL UNIVERSITY

RESEARCH WITH PURPOSE. SERVICE WITH IMPACT.

SDG 1 (NO POVERTY), SDG 2 (ZERO HUNGER), SDG 12 (RESPONSIBLE CONSUMPTION AND PRODUCTION), AND SDG 17 (PARTNERSHIPS FOR THE GOALS)

The Research and Development Center (RDC) of Baguio Central University continues to demonstrate that research leadership extends beyond publications, presentations, and innovations. It is equally grounded in compassion, social responsibility, and meaningful actions that create positive change in communities.

Guided by its commitment to research with purpose and service with impact, the RDC initiated a community-centered effort in support of the hardworking farmers of Benguet who have been affected by the challenges of vegetable oversupply and declining market demand. Through this initiative, the RDC purchased locally harvested vegetables directly from farmers and shared them with the university’s researchers, faculty members, and staff.

Fresh vegetables are available at the RDC Office, serving as a simple yet meaningful expression of solidarity with the local agricultural sector.

More than providing access to fresh produce, this initiative aims to help sustain the livelihoods of farming communities, promote food security, encourage responsible consumption, and strengthen the spirit of collective care within and beyond the university. It reflects the belief that academic institutions have an important role in addressing community concerns and supporting sustainable local development.

This undertaking aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 1 (No Poverty), SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). By supporting local farmers and fostering collaboration between the university and the community, the RDC contributes to creating meaningful and sustainable impact beyond the academic setting.

Under the leadership of Dr. Michael T. Sebullen, the RDC continues to champion a vision of research that is responsive to societal needs— where knowledge is translated into action, partnerships create opportunities, and service becomes a pathway toward sustainable development.

This initiative serves as a reminder that research is not only about understanding societal challenges but also about taking part in the solutions. Through acts of bayanihan, compassion, and community engagement, Baguio Central University continues to uphold its commitment to making research relevant, impactful, and transformative.

From research to real community impact, every harvest shared becomes a step toward empowering lives, strengthening communities, and building a more sustainable future for all.
